Cynthia Hammer, MSW, was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD in 1992 when she was 49 years old. The following year she created the non-profit organization, ADD Resources, with a mission to educate adults and helping professionals about ADHD in adults. She ran this organization for 15 years before retiring.
Her award-winning memoir and self-help book, Living with Inattentive ADHD was published in 2023. While writing the book Cynthia realized that children with inattentive ADHD continued to be under-diagnosed and adults with inattentive ADHD often are incorrectly diagnosed with depression or anxiety. She was motivated to create a new non-profit in 2021, the Inattentive ADHD Coalition (www.iadhd.org), to create more awareness about inattentive ADHD and the need for early diagnosis and treatment.
Now, as a project of the Inattentive ADHD Coalition, she founded FINDtheADHDgirls with a mission to give all girls with ADHD a fair start by getting diagnosed before age 8. The website-wwwFINDtheADHDgirls.org has a free questionnaire to help parents determine if their young daughter might
have ADHD. It also has a growing list of helpful articles and a curated resources list.
