Francesca is not only the Global Leader of IBM’s AI, but also a fellow of both the worldwide association of AI (AAAI) and of the European one (EurAI).She has been president of IJCAI (International Joint Conference on AI), an executive councillor of AAAI,and the Editor in Chief of the Journal of AI Research. She is ensuring that we learn more about the factors that contribute to some human qualities that are still absent in AI, such as adaptability, generalizability, common sense, and causal reasoning, by holding the top technical position at IBM, the IBM Fellow. She discusses her career history, interests in AI, and traveling from Italy to the United States to work for IBM in her interview. She shares her experience as an Italian professor and her recent meeting with the Pope at the Vatican for the "Rome call for AI ethics" event.
