A Seat At The Table with Mireille Harper

Welcome to Series 3 of A Seat At The Table with Spare Ribs Club!

In this podcast series, creator of Spare Ribs Club Alex Holker talks to guests about their dream feminist dinner party. From their 3 feminist guests, the 3 tunes that will be on repeat all evening, and the 3 courses being served, this podcast brings together conversations around feminism, music and food.

In this episode, Alex talks to Mireille Harper. Mireille is an award-winning editor, writer, sensitivity/authenticity reader and communications consultant. She is the author of Timelines from Black History and a contributor to Timelines of Everyone, The Black History Book and Migrations. Her essay, ‘Why Passivity Will No Longer Do’ is published in Feminist Book Society’s anthology, This Is How We Come Back Stronger. Her writing has been published in British Vogue, GUAP, Nataal, Digital Spy, Good Housekeeping, PORT Magazine and more. Dedicated to supporting cultural, creative and community projects, Mireille is a trustee of Migrateful, And Other Stories, Africa Writes and Être Girls.

We discuss Mireille's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a wonderful guest list; American novelist Toni Morrison, political activist Assata Shakur, and singer and actress Eartha Kitt. Set in a snowy cottage against a soundtrack of Amy Winehouse, Pink Floyd and Groove Armada, they start with a Jamaican melange of starters, followed by a seafood feast with french fries, fennel and orange salad and garlic bread, and finishing with a chocolate melt in the middle pudding with butterscotch topping and salted caramel icecream. We discuss how her feminism intersect with her writing and her work as a sensitivity reader.
