Today, my guest is Chrissy Zemura, hairstylist, colourist and salon owner of Sydney's Zemura Salon. She worked in one of Sydney's top salons before launching her own, has had work published in fashion magazines including Marie Claire, and, as a champion of inclusive hairdressing, most recently drawing attention to the fact that caring and styling afro and curly hair is not currently part of the hairdressing curriculum in Australia. That leaves black, Indigenous and people of colour deprived of skilled hair care, with hair left mistreated however well intentioned due to lack of education. The petition she started that has (updated) currently got over 40,000 signatures and Chrissy, calling for the support of the industry, is making overdue waves to change this.
