5 Tips & Tricks: Assistant Athletic Director of Special Events at U of Nebraska- Arek Olson

Todays Guest: Assistant Athletic Director of Special Events at U of Nebraska- Arek Olson

Originally from Wellsville, New York, he began as a student-athlete, playing baseball at Keuka and Cazenovia Colleges, where he earned his degree summa cum laude. He went on to complete his master’s at Syracuse University, gaining hands-on experience in event operations and facility changeovers with the Carrier Dome.

From there, he took on leadership roles at Lehigh University, managing large event teams and facilities, before joining the University of Arkansas in 2021. Over four years with the Razorbacks, he helped launch major first-time events like concerts, conventions, and arena shows, while also improving internal systems and serving as part of the NCAA Gymnastics Regional host team.

Now in 2025, he steps into a new chapter as Assistant Athletic Director of Special Events at Nebraska, leading strategy and execution for concerts, corporate functions, and more. He’s also working toward his doctorate at East Tennessee State University—all while being a dedicated family man and lover of sports, music, and the outdoors.
