5 Mics, S1 EP1 - It Was All A Dream: The Untold Story of Unsigned Hype
In this brief introductory Episode 1, you will hear for the first time the true story of how The Source was started in 1988 by Dave Mays while he was a college student at Harvard University. As Mays hustled around Boston to land sponsors for his college radio show, “Street Beat,” he kept being turned down. This led to him creating a mailing list of his listeners and a newsletter providing hip-hop news and information to fans across the city. He named the newsletter The Source, which quickly grew from one page into a small magazine, with the help of fellow Harvard students Jon Shecter, Ed Young, and James Bernard.
