1st April: Boom Shaka

One of my earliest childhood memories on my grandmothers 20cm television screen was the fierce beauties of boom shaka.

We didn't really know them by name but back then summer holidays got so much better vibing to the tunes.

Boom Shaka were a pioneering kwaito music group from South Africa, consisting of Junior Sokhela, Lebo Mathosa, Theo Nhlengethwa and Thembi Seete. Their first album was produced in 1994. Boom Shaka's first single "It's About Time" was released in 1993.

31 March: Traffic University - ALGERIA

Algeria is a country in North Africa bordered on the north by the Mediterranean Sea. Covering an area of 2,381,741 square kilometers, Algeria is the largest country in Africa and the tenth largest in the world. Its capital is the city of Algiers. Algiers also holds the record for the city with the largest population in the country.

The cover photo in this podcast is of an Algerian teen artist who adopted her style of painting from Picasso and Matisse. In the 1940s, a 16-year-old girl captured the minds of the art world’s elite. The self-taught artist, Baya Mahieddine (1931-1988) — known as Baya — was finally being celebrated in the first North American exhibition of her work, at NYU’s Grey Art Gallery, March 21st 2018. How timely that this Podcast falls on the anniversary of that special launch.

Sweetest Blue hues.

Cleo Sol was born to musical parents who met in a Jazz band. Her Mum, half Serbian and Spanish, is a singer and plays the guitar and flute. Cleo's Jamaican Dad plays the bass and piano.

Back in University, Cleo's covers and medley's were my daily. Her voice is like warm milk.

06 March - Davido

David Adedeji Adeleke (born November 21, 1992), popularly known as Davido, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is one of the most influential artists in Africa. Like Fela Kuti before them, Davido and his peers are taking their country’s music way beyond its borders, with Nigeria’s Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy and Mr Eazi also signed to major international labels.

They and others have created a golden age for Afrobeats, a broad term that threads various African pop styles with R&B, dancehall and more, and differs from Fela Kuti’s polyrhythmic Afrobeat. Collaborations alongside British and American superstars, less common a decade ago, are now normal: Davido’s new album features songs with Nicki Minaj, Nas, Lil Baby and Chris Brown

Again, apologies for the delay with my publishing.

I have a new found respect for Circus Jugglers because WOW.

Traffic university is where you listen to something informative or educational during traffic.

Mine today will be on Retinal Migraines, specifically because migraines are my thing.

If you suffer from headaches, and might have experienced something similar, look it up or speak to your treating medical specialist.

03rd March: Teni

Teniola Apata,  better known as Teni, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and entertainer.

I saw Teni for the first time on TV but it was the hit track "Case" which caught me. The melody; to this day it's still the first on my list of favorite tracks by her. If she can top it, I'd have to be proven wrong.
