Completely neglected by the media, the Sahel is one of the poorest, most drugs-infested and climate change-affected region in the world.

The region has also seen political instability like nowhere else⚠️

10 years ago, the United Nations (MINUSMA), the EU (EUTM) and France together with allies like Belgium, started several missions to avoid terrorist/rebel groups from taking power and to (try to) restore order.

While initially successful in stabilizing parts of the region, the Sahel has since descended once again into political turmoil, marked by a series of coups d'état. ⚔️🛑

In my fourth podcast for the Royal Higher Institute for Defence, I chose to interview Colonel Eric Kalajzic - ex head of private office to the MINUSMA Force Commander in Mali - to discuss this topic.

We opted for an explanation of the conflict through the perspective of his personal experiences/missions in the region 👤🎧▶️
