Fibroids are incredibly common. Anywhere from 40% to 80% of people with a uterus will develop this growth, which is benign but can bring severe symptoms like pain, heavy bleeding, and reproductive issues. These symptoms can be not only physically debilitating but also cause emotional and social issues. During a trip to her home country of Jamaica in September 2024, host Sandra Lindsay, RN, interviewed three women whose lives have been deeply impacted by uterine fibroids for years. With the country facing a large backlog in this type of surgery, these women, like so many more, were unable to get surgery, which is why Sandra organized a team of OB/GYNs to travel with her to Jamaica to treat these women at no cost.
