香港人對滑浪風帆的認識，很大程度是因為李麗珊，1996年，她在阿特蘭大為香港奪得史上第一面奧運金牌。事隔16年，倫敦奧運之後, 滑浪風帆很大機會要告別奧運，因為國際帆船協會倡議由風箏滑水Kiteboarding取代滑浪風帆的位置。滑浪風帆是香港的傳統強項，早在1982年新特里亞運會，蔡利強已經為香港奪得一面銅牌，到1984年，滑浪風帆成為奧運項目，蔡利強亦代表香港參賽。由90年北京亞運開始，香港滑浪風帆隊每屆都有進賬，如果下屆奧運，滑浪風帆的席位不保的話，對香港隊當然並非好事。對於這個情況，圈內人
