尾根を歩いて気がつくのが石仏が尾根沿いに建っていること。
四王寺山には三十三ヶ所にあるそうです。
調べてみますと、圧倒的に多いのが千手観音菩薩像で、あとは如意輪観音菩薩像、罵頭観音菩薩像といったところでした。
建立されたのが江戸時代後期だそうで、福岡城下町の大火や天然痘の流行などの転変地異に対し、観音様の御利益にすがる気持ちで建立されたんだとか。
こういった仏像をめぐって歩くのも別の楽しみがありそうです。
