Today’s topic is a heavy one. So heavy, in fact, that I’m not even attempting to come up with a mood-lightening joke to soften its grim arrival. While preparing this episode, I went from wanting to howl (I held it in), to sob uncontrollably (I didn’t), to shoot dogfight organizers in the knees (none were conveniently at hand). So no cheerful descriptions this time. But what I am full of is the strength to talk facts — no fluff (somewhere out there, a thesis just got defended with all the saved verbiage I left out). As you’ve surely guessed by now: this episode is about dog fighting — how a utilitarian tool became a noble pastime, and later, a modern-day blood industry. Yes, your ears aren’t deceiving you: dog fighting is illegal in most countries around the world (including, I’m 3000% sure, the one you currently live in). And yet, this bloody business isn’t the least bit shy about its scale. Why it’s bloody probably needs no explaining to you, my wise and noble listeners. But why I dare to call it a business — well, that’s what I unpack in this episode. And if I may say so — with just the tiniest lack of modesty — this may be the most comprehensive audio deep dive on dog fighting you’ve ever heard. Including all this: 🥊 How rat-baiting mutated into a rotting “entertainment” industry; 💰 How much a “promising” puppy costs and how fight organizers make money; 🧬 What role banned substances play — and how dogs are “trained” for the ring; 👁 What legal loopholes let perpetrators walk free again and again; 🐾 What consequences fall not just on dogs and organizers — but on society at large. (Yes, even if you’ve never heard of a dog fight, it’s still hurting you.) ⚠️ How to spot a dog in danger and when help is needed; 🧡 And following that: how you can help — for the price of a coffee, a phone call, or even just a few free words. ⏰ As promised in the episode, the segment about identifying and helping dogs in danger begins at 33:16. 🩵🩶 Listen. Be horrified. Share it. And please — don’t look away. No puppy eyes this time — just an earnest ask to follow, react, or subscribe to Pёskast on the platforms where it’s easiest for you not to miss the next episode. And please — take care of yourselves and those around you. 🩶🩵
