खूप खूप वर्षांपूर्वी वेदव्यास ऋषींनी महाभारत लिहायचे ठरवले, पण ते एकट्याने शक्यच नव्हते. त्यांनी गणपतीला विनंती केली, आणि गणपतीने मातीचे लेपन करून दहा दिवस बसून महाभारत लिहून काढले. म्हणूनच गणपतीची मूर्ती मातीची बसवून आपण सगळे दहा दिवस पूजा करतो.दुसरी गोष्ट अशी आहे की अनलासूर नावाचा एक अग्नी म्हणजे आग ओकणारा भयंकर राक्षस होता. तो जिकडे जाई तिकडे सगळे जळून जायचे. देव खूप घाबरले आणि गणपतीला मदत मागितली. गणपतीने त्याला गिळून टाकले, पण त्यांच्या पोटात खूप जळजळ होऊ लागली. देवांनी अनेक उपाय केले, पण काही उपयोग झाला नाही. शेवटी ऋषींनी हिरव्या दुर्वा गणपतीला अर्पण केल्या आणि चमत्कार झाला—गणपतीची जळजळ शांत झाली! तेव्हापासून गणपतीला दुर्वा खूप प्रिय झाल्या.

बोध : गणपतीला दुर्वा प्रिय आहेत. खरी भक्ती मनापासून केली की देव प्रसन्न होतो.

Many gods tried to cool him down, but nothing worked. Finally, the sages offered green Durva grass, and magically the burning stopped! From that day, Durva became Ganesha’s favorite offering.

Moral: Lord Ganesha loves even the simple Durva grass. True devotion comes from the heart, not from grand offerings.
